Pfam domain analysis

OBJECTIVE

  • Pfam domains of all the current phosphoproteins in P3DB were analyzed. Our objective is to find out whether protein phosphorylation has preference on Pfam domains.

METHOD:

  • All the oilseed rape phosphoprotein sequences are submitted to Sanger Pfam online service (Pfam 22.0) with e-value cutoff 10-10. Then the returned result was analyzed to extract the information on distribution of the phosphorylation sites regarding Pfam domains.

RESULT:

  • 1297 different pfam domains were found in all 6382 phosphoproteins, out of which, 712 contains phosphorylation sites.
  • Overall, phosphorylation has no significant preference on pfam domains.
    • In phosphorylation proteins, there are 3.8 phosphorylation sites per 1000 amino acids.
    • In the domains of phosphorylation proteins, there are 3.7 phosphorylation sites per 1000 amino acids.
  • Preference of protein phosphorylation towards different pfam domains varies: phosphorylation sites per 1000 amino acids varies from 0 to 49.
  • Pfam domain analysis data are available for downloading.
